Approach
Creation
I’m always creating ‘things’ be that digital or physical, in work or at home. The process of creating is where I find the greatest reward - it’s all about the journey and discovering new and unexpected things along the way to achieving a goal.
Care
I care about people and what I do every day.
I believe that without care there is no meaningful thought and this provides passion.
Caring leads to empathy - it takes time and requires patience to understand the people around you.
Curiosity
Always being curious means that I’m continually learning. I’m interested in so many different aspects of life and I think everything intertwines providing new opportunities, ideas and insight creating a richer and more interesting outlook.
Team work
My mantra is I manage a process and support people, never manage people to support a process.
I like to work in cross functional, agile teams, working towards outcomes rather than outputs. I enjoy being embedded in the development team and working closely with Product Managers bringing an energetic start-up approach to big business problems.
Stakeholder Management
A designer's effectiveness in business communication lies in storytelling. By leveraging powerful visuals and empathizing with the audience, I tailor information to their needs. I thrive on bridging occasional gaps between company objectives and user needs, turning them into opportunities that align both parties towards a common goal.
User Research
"We only collect data if we need to create knowledge" someone wise said this and I use it daily. Along with using the most suitable research method, qualititative or quantitative, to provide the insight required. By identifying the behavior you know your 'truth', any features, journey changes and content can all work towards that identified behaviour.
Crafted UI design
I specialise in information architecture, crafting logical and well-balanced elements that enhances user experience by making information easily accessible and navigable. Starting with pen and paper, I sketch wireframes and ideate quickly to create intuitive interactions, ensuring users can accomplish tasks seamlessly, thus reducing friction and boosting engagement. Moreover, I weave stories around features to enhance desirability, improve user comprehension, and encourage desired behaviors, ultimately making products both functional and desirable.
Design systems
Efficient use of a well-documented design system ensures consistency in the User Interface (UI) across websites or apps. Following Brad Frost's 'Atomic design' approach, which categorises elements into atoms, molecules, and organisms, aligns with the DRY (Don’t Repeat Yourself) coding practice. This includes design tokens, practical naming guidelines, and a scalable taxonomy system to prevent disruptions in existing patterns. Becoming a great user experience designer relies on mastering fundamentals like consistency, rather than solely relying on the latest techniques or aesthetics.
I balance my passion for UX and business with my love for travel, creativity and life outdoors.
I'm always willing to find new joys - most recently in taking up surfing and pottery - and I am deeply inspired by architecture and art.
